Israeli MIAs
Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to present, pursuant to Standing Order 36, the attached petitions signed by hundreds, probably thousands, of constituents from the riding of Thornhill. They were marshalled, organized and acquired by the hard work of Renanah Goldhar and Mothers for MIAs.
Hatred on Campus
National Holocaust Memorial Act
It was not a project designed for the Jewish community to commemorate its suffering. It was a project intended to be an expression of the Canadian view of all that was required to fight back evil no matter where it existed and then to celebrate those hardy people who survived it. We used as an example the Jewish community, but we wanted to make it universal.
National Holocaust Memorial Act (Q&A)
National Holocaust Monument
Mr. Speaker, 70 years ago, the first transports began arriving at death camps like Auschwitz, sites of the worst government-sponsored genocide in history.
Israel
Mr. Speaker, grotesque methods in Conservative ten percenters and in House debates designed to smear Liberal policies toward Israel prompted a public rebuke from the real head of the Israeli delegation at Durban I.
I quote further from the then also deputy foreign minister, Rabbi Michael Melchior, from a letter published today in the National Post:
Communication between Member and Constituent
Mr. Speaker, yesterday in question period the member of Parliament for Kitchener Centre read from what he alleged was a private communication between me, an MP from Toronto, and my constituent regarding the Liberal Party’s policies toward Israel.
Points of Order
Mr. Speaker, during question period, the member for Kitchener Centre made a reference to a communication that I sent to some of my constituents, wherein he referenced a statement by a representative of the Israeli delegation to Durban I.
Statement Relating to Subject Matter of Prima Facie Breach of Privilege
Mr. Speaker, I am rising on a similar point, just for clarification. Once the Speaker has made a decision on a prima facie case that addresses the ability of members to conduct their work as parliamentarians, I would think it behooves all members of Parliament to show respect for the Chair’s ruling by refraining from making the kinds of statements that lead to such questions of privilege again and again.
Mr. Speaker, I think that is the issue. I think that is something you might want to reflect upon again.
Conservative Party Flyer
Mr. Speaker, there has been widespread condemnation of the Conservatives’ abuse of public funds to transform ten percenters into partisan propaganda pieces. Imagine my disgust when I received a flyer at home from the Conservatives, trying to brand the Liberals, my party, as anti-Semitic, pro-terrorist and anti-Israel.
