Statement by Liberal MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj regarding comments on Minister Kenney’s trip to Poland

Tuesday, Jan 26/01/2010 // ,

My comments were solely in reference to the timing of Minister Kenney’s trip to Poland during the current crisis in Haiti. When I spoke to the media, I was not previously aware that a visit to Auschwitz was on the Minister’s itinerary, and was only made aware of this fact during the interview. In light of this fact, I sincerely regret these comments. I would never trivialize a Minister’s visit to Auschwitz and especially on the 65th anniversary of its liberation.  Had I been fully informed, I would not have made these comments.

International Day for Tolerance

"Mr. Speaker, today is the International Day for Tolerance. This day is an opportunity to promote tolerance, education, and an occasion for wider reflection and debate on local, national and international problems of intolerance. Tuesday, Aug 22/08/2006 // ,

“Mr. Wrzesnewskyj betrays a profound ignorance of the facts and a distorted view that confuses the arsonist with the firefighter by suggesting that Israel’s accidental shelling of Q’ana is anything other than an example of the tragic consequences that accompany all conflicts. There is a world of difference between misdirected or errant bombs on the one hand, and Hezbollah’s intentional launching of almost 4,000 rockets directed at Israeli civilian population centres.”

Hezbollah should be taken off the list

Monday, Aug 21/08/2006 // ,

It would aid the cause of peace if Canada dropped Hezbollah from its list of banned terrorist organizations, two Canadian MPs on a fact-finding mission to Lebanon said yesterday. When asked if he was in favour of Hezbollah being taken off the terror list, Etobicoke Liberal Borys Wrzesnewskyj said: "Yes, I would be." He likened the situation in the Middle East to that of Northern Ireland, where "if there wasn’t the possibility for London to negotiate with the IRA, you’d still have bombings."
