Congratulations to the Canadian Coalition Against Terror
Tonight in the Parliament of Canada, the House of Commons passed the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act (JVTA). Congratulations to all those who worked hard to make this bill law! Below is the statement that CJPAC sent out tonight following the vote in the House of Commons.
Years ago, when CJPAC first met with the Canadian Coalition Against Terror (C-CAT), all of us recognized that amending Canadian laws in order to allow Canadians to sue state sponsors of terrorism was an important goal, despite the many obstacles that would be faced. A few minutes ago, after years of work and collaboration, the Parliament of Canada passed the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act (JVTA).
The successful passage of the JVTA is a testament to the passion, optimism and dedication of the hundreds of grassroots political activists who have worked so hard to reach this goal. We are honoured to have played a part in their success, using our “1-2-3 Action” software to coordinate their members’ messages and to reach important elected officials at crucial moments.
It has been an honour to work with C-CAT on this important bill and I congratulate them on today’s important win.
Sincerely,
Henry Wolfond
Chair, CJPAC
