CJPAC Fellow on the Hill
Zach Battat, former CJPAC Fellow and Senior Fellow, is packing his bags and moving to Ottawa this week to begin an internship on Parliament Hill at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition.
Zach was a CJPAC Fellow in the 2007-2008 year and a Senior Fellow the following year. During his Fellowship, he became active both on and off campus. He was a Councillor for the Concordia Student Union in 2007-2008 and President of Liberal Concordia Students Association in 2008-2009, during which he worked with Hillel to organize a successful event with Hon. Michael Ignatieff. Off campus, he volunteered with CJPAC at events in Montreal where he met and interacted with important political figures.
“I was interested in politics before beginning the CJPAC Fellowship, but the program made me passionate and driven towards it,” said Zach. “I learned the importance of organizing and mobilizing our community to make a difference. Our community’s voice is important and we have to make it heard by advocating for issues that are important to us here in Canada and in Israel.” The highlights of the program for Zach were meeting prominent politicians at the Ottawa conference and chatting with a variety of guest political speakers on the exclusive conference calls.
“The Fellowship is a great way to get involved,” said Zach. He recommends the program to students who are already politically active and want to become more involved or to those who are interested in politics but have not had the opportunity to become active.
Although Zach has completed his Fellowship, he recognizes the importance of CJPAC and plans to stay involved for a long time.
